As years gone by, dating scams from Russia and the Ukraine remain a threat, and in fact, they have even become more common, and more costly to consumers in many countries. Every dating site, every social network and even unrelated websites, including spam email and instant messages, is a possible target by Russian scammers. No site is immune, and even on Facebook and Match.com, there is no way for the companies to verify the millions of members and subscribers. Users of online dating and social networks are on their own. Caution is advised.

Main targets are men in countries like the U.K., the U.S., Canada and Australia looking for beauties and love from Eastern Europe. Of course, not all women in the region are scammers or criminals, but sorting through the mess and screening for fraud has become a full time job.

There are no real ways to know if you have been contacted by a scammer or a real woman looking for an internet relationship oriented to eventually getting married. Finding real love on line is really a challenge. Some people believe that internet relationships might be safer than real ones, but truth is that they are not and risks are much higher. Like a box of chocolates, you never know what you are going to get. It can be very hard to tell who is the real person behind the photos.

In the past six years, Russian and Ukrainian dating scams have become an international matter harming millions of victims in developed countries, leaving scam victims emotionally and financially devastated in many cases. Russia private investigators say be skeptical and protect your private information, and when ready, consider a reputable investigation firm to investigate and verify your new internet chat mate. Being cautious can be one of the smartest moves you make.

Romance scam take the form of advance free fraud covered with the urge of need of money for emergencies such as hotel bills, education, medical expenses, passport and visas, rent, flights, travel arrangements or anything in between that requests the prompt and full payment for something that can’t wait, or the scammer will be deported, thrown out of her house or retained in customs for not bringing proper documents. Or it can be as simple as needed money (or your information to steal your identity) so that the two of you can soon be together.

Russia and the Ukraine are countries where corruption is high and people should proceed with caution. Men looking for love in dating websites and social networks should verify their contacts and make sure they are real, and the only reliable way to do so is by conducting a Russia background check where local investigators will verify all the information you provide.

All the best,

  1. This is very common scam, dating scam starts when you start cheating with strangers and you don’t know they might be scammers. When you try to meet them they always pretend to be sick or any urgent work and when the actual time come to meet them they develop an emergency situation in which he/she need money and always try to cheat you by using their tricks..Beware!!!

  2. I think that one of the best things that you can do to avoid potential Russian scams is to look into an international background check. Since they are very common, you should make sure that the person you are talking to is a legitimate person who isn't trying to scam you. If you have any doubts whatsoever, you should look into getting a background check so that you can have a clear conscience.
